Coronation Street Episode Review Friday 22 February

Evening Corrie fans, it’s Kelly here with your Friday night review (only one episode tonight, not sure why? Maybe Rocky V has messed with the schedules?).

In the cafĂ© Roy has noticed that his beloved beige coat is missing. This follows on from the loss of his similarly coloured slippers and is clearly a bridge too far for our favourite beige-on-beige devotee. Carla tries to take his mind off it by buying him a brand-new coat. It’s a three-quarter-length brown leather jacket with far too many pockets. God knows what the thought process behind this purchase was? It looks like the sort of item that would be worn by unshaven men who hang around betting shops and think that the Taken films are a masterpiece of cinema. Wisely Roy rejects it in favour of continuing the search for his own jacket.

Meanwhile over at the factory the knicker-stitchers are making some novelty red drawers whilst planning Sally’s please-speak-to-your-sister-again-despite-her-trying-to-shtuup-your-husband party. Carla generously puts in a wedge of cash, and with the party fund topped up Gina puts it in a brown envelope marked ‘Sophie’ and posts it through the Webster’s door. There it’s found by Kev and Jack who decide that it’s money from Sophie to pay for the digital detox holiday they want to go on, and immediately pack their bags and leave. None of this makes any sense of course. Can no one talk to each other? You know, normal conversation like ‘Soph could you look after some money for me? Oh great, here it is’. Or ‘Is this money (that I wasn’t expecting) for a holiday? No? Oh ok, thanks for confirming’. When Sophie tells Gina that she never got the cash everyone naturally suspects Gina of stealing the money. Beth kicks her out, and Sophie reluctantly has to let her stay at No.13.

Still at Underworld, eagle-eyed Paul has noticed that the novelty knickers all say, ‘Sex Boob’ rather than ‘Sex Bomb’ and Kirk is told to throw the lot in the recycling bin. As he does so he finds Roy’s missing coat, and with a bit more digging the slippers turn up too. I’m rather confused by this as well. Didn’t Carla put them in the back of her car a few episodes ago? I know she wears heels that are rather impractical for walking in, but did she really need to drive to her own bin?

In other news, Shona decides to attend Dane’s funeral in the hope of seeing Clayton. Tedious couple Kate and Rana meet up with Kate’s old school friend Lolly and whine about how they’ve invited too many people to their wedding, and the McDonalds get gazumped in their purchase of 12 Victoria Street by Claudia. Incidentally, I’ve noticed that Claud speaks about herself in the third-person which I’m sure is one of the signs of extreme narcissism. Just what does she need the extra space for anyway? Is she planning to convert the front parlour into a dungeon where she can bathe in the blood of freshly slaughtered virgins to preserve her youth?

Also, Amy has still failed to mention her termination to her parents. How long does she expect to keep this up for? I know Steve and Tracy can be a bit self-absorbed but I’m pretty sure that at least one of them would notice the lack of a bump after a while.

Finally, Roy is determined to get to the bottom of the jacket and slippers mystery and eventually Carla tells him that he started the fire and that she covered it up. He tells her that she had no right to withhold the truth and goes to Peter’s to confess and apologise. Peter is furious with Carla. He tells her that for Roy’s sake he won’t take it any further, but that she owes Abi a public apology. Later in the flat Roy, having already been to the police station to make a statement, tells Carla that he is bitterly disappointed with her. He thinks that she felt satisfaction in seeing Abi suffer and that her obsession with Peter could have landed an innocent woman in jail. Carla defends herself but you know she realises there’s some truth in Roy’s accusations. Is their friendship over?

I’ve been Kelly and I’d be interested to know what everyone thinks of the current raft of nonsensical decisions made by Corrie characters? Is it niggling you or can you just go with it? I mean let’s face it Dickens is full of absurdities. I spent most of ‘A Tale of Two Cities’ shouting ‘WELL JUST DON’T GO BACK TO PARIS THEN!’

Coronation Street Episode Review; Weds 13th Feb 7.30pm

Welcome to Wednesday's edition of the Coronation Street Blog, and the first of tonight's two episodes-reviewed in a handy blog post.

Abbie and Carla reconcile after their recent argument, but you wonder how much trouble a boat can cause?.

Meanwhile, Abi is excited to be heading to Kefalonia with Captain Barlow. With Simon off of school, he's keen to help his dad on the boat, although Peter hasn't told his son about his trip with Abi until Carla tells subtly fills him in. Confronting his father in Roy's, Simon tells Peter that Abi means nothing to him, unluckily in earshot of Seb.

Later, paying her son a visit to tell him the news, Seb obviously can't wait to chastise his mother again and reveals Peters true feelings.

As David questions Shona's recent sneaky discussions with Nick, Clayton receives a beating for his Mums failed drug deal. Beaten to a pulp, Shona is called to the hospital. At the shop, David quizzes his brother and smashes a mirror in frustration. Over at Weatherfield General, Clayton is relatively unscathed but can Shona escape her sons latest drug dealing violence?.

Roy's coffee addiction is causing concern for Carla as his sleep deprivation and parasomnia put Alex in near danger, who's back working behind the counter.

Failing customer confidentiality, Alex is keen to tell Mary all of the latest gossip, and Mary is fitting perfectly into her new role as Ruby's new childminder. Tyrone is pleased with Mary's cooking, and eccentric house cleaning (headphones and a fluffy pig, anyone?).

Chesney makes peace with Gemma, will his quiche win him a quickie after all?. Fish fingers and fraternisation are certainly on the menu over a planned supper with young Joseph.

Meanwhile, Sally dreams of yoga on a Hindu retreat and introduces Kevin to the idea of a mindful retreat for young Jack. Kevin tells Sally that he's got a  digital detox holiday planned with his son instead. How very millennial!. Maybe Roy could do with a detox perhaps but fear not, as Carla's filing soon puts him to sleep.

Over at Chesney's, Gemma starts making tea for Joseph and accidentally burns herself with a tray. Exclaiming the 'f word' in true Corrie comedy fashion blurts it out in earshot of the youngster (a lot of that going on tonight) The 'f word' has been dropped, and it isn't 'fish fingers'. Joseph is learning all about birds of prey, so if Chesney lets him watch 'KES', Gemma's 'f word' will be the least of worries! (great film, check it out, kids).

And outside on the street, Simon sits mournfully by the boat, looking a little lost... like a lost buoy perhaps.

Just how much trouble can a boat cause?.

More from me later tonight, with your Coronation Street blog review of 8.30 pm part two!.

Coronation Street Episode Review Friday 8 February 8.30pm

We’re back and Shona is telling Clayton that she won’t be his drugs mule. She finds an ally in Leanne who recalls the trouble she had with Simon. Then Nick, having realised his mistake, apologises to her and tells her that David is a better person because of her.

Meanwhile Roy gives Carla his gift and shows his friends his mother’s ring which he’s had cleaned. As they gather round to look at it, they notice an inscription: RP 01.03.59 Rhea. What could it mean? Mary thinks it’s a reference to a South American flightless bird, whilst Roy leans towards Rhea Silvia the mythical mother of Romulus and Remus. While I respect both their imagination and detective work, when I think of Sylvia my mind doesn’t immediately go to Roman goddesses or emu’s…but maybe she had hidden depths that we didn’t know about?

Over at the hotel Johnny and Jenny finally have a heart to heart. She tells him that she forgave him too quickly over Liz and that their marriage has been a series of disasters. Johnny tells her that their marriage is worth saving because (amongst other things) he likes the way she makes his tea. Unbelievably an endorsement of her hot beverage skills fails to sway Jenny, so he tells her that she’s not perfect and he’s not perfect but they’re perfect for each other. Which is even more ridiculous then the tea comment because as we all know Jenny Bradley-Connor IS perfect, whilst Johnny is a very silly man with a penchant for pub quizzes who doesn’t realise how lucky he is. Anyway, God knows why but it works, and the Connors are reconciled.

Elsewhere Brian practically has to beg Rita to come back to the Kabin (Johnny take note). She eventually agrees on the condition that she is still the manager and that she doesn’t have to make all the tea, as it’s below her paygrade. For the love of God Reet, you’re 87! Surely it’d be a relief to not have to put on four layers of slap every day to distribute a couple of packets of mint imperials and give Brian the Tanner death-stare when he messes up the papers?

Finally, round at No.8 Shona tells David that she loves him for trying to be ok with her helping Clayton. With their problems resolved they head for bed, when we see someone pick the lock on the back door…

Is it one of Clayton’s prison cronies or is it the ghost of one of Gail’s husbands? It’s probably a safe bet that at least one of them is a bit dissatisfied with the afterlife. Maybe Michael can’t rest because someone’s not squeezing the toothpaste right to the end of the tube. Maybe spending 30 years in the hot place is seriously ruining Brian’s curly perm?

All will surely be revealed soon…

Coronation Street Episode Review Friday 8 February 7.30pm

Greetings Corrie fans, it's Kelly here with the first of your Friday night Corrie reviews.

We open with the un-imprisoned Jenny making a grateful call to Liz for failing to show up at court and thus invalidating her case. Little does she know that by now Liz is at the pool, downing her third Pornstar Martini of the morning and planning her next foam party and fumble with Big Jeff from Bolton.

Meanwhile Jenny’s errant husband has finally noticed that his wife might be drinking an ickle bit too much. It’s taking him a while to get it, but to be fair the clues (giving herself a black eye, paranoid screaming at the Rovers punters and nearly killing the barmaid) were rather subtle.  Feeling pleased with himself for working it out, he decides the solution is a big romantic gesture, and so bursts into the Rovers telling Jenny he’s whisking her away for a night in a posh hotel. In doing so he inadvertently ruins Gemma’s idea of a perfect evening – having a takeaway with Chesney whilst wearing her ‘Dua Lipa look’. I’m not really cool enough to know what this look consists of, but I’m guessing it involves a fair amount of exposed midriff, so Ches may have had a lucky escape.

Out on the street Roy asks for Peter’s help in choosing a piece of his mother’s jewellery to give to Carla. Peter, (who's rather pleased to be a Carla Connor expert), picks something out for him and then offers Roy a tour of his boat. As Roy reminisces about his childhood boating adventures, we get a glimpse of his unhappy past with an absent unfaithful father and a cold mother. I was momentarily worried that this was part of Peter’s boat-themed seduction routine but luckily Roy doesn’t seem to be his type.

Meanwhile Shona asks Imran for his advice on moving Clayton to an open prison. In the process she incurs the wrath of moral guardian and uber-hypocrite Nick who has a go at her for having no regard for David’s feelings. He’s got it completely wrong of course, as David’s moodiness is because he loves Shona and wants to do the right thing and be there for her. Shona calls her son to tell him that there’s little chance of him getting a move and the little toe rag tells her that the only other way to keep him safe is for her to smuggle drugs into prison for him. I can’t help thinking that he needs to think outside the box a bit more. Surely being extra nice to the lonely 22-stone psychopath from G-wing might be a third option, but I suppose one unlikely to be suggested by his mother.

I'll be back shortly with your 8.30 review, until then catch me on twitter @mskelstar

Kelly
